The Definitive Andy Cooney Collection

The songs I have chosen for my latest CD are songs that I truly love and love to sing. There are two that have not been on any of my CDs, "I Won't Turn My Back on You" I am singing with Daniel Rodriguez and Michael Amante as part of The New York Tenors and the other song, "A Woman Like That" was recorded in Nashville, but never released. I would like to thank all of the special guests on the CD, Daniel and Michael of The New York Tenors, Crystal Gayle, Louise Morrissey and Catherine Coates.

Since the inception of The Three Tenors on July 7, 1990 in Rome at the Baths of Caracalla on the eve of the FIFA World Cup Final, Plácido Domingo, José Carreras and the one and only Luciano Pavarotti; have opened the doors for other great voices, such as the Irish Tenors, The Canadian Tenors and many other talented and renowned performers. Now three of New York’s premier voices, Andy Cooney, Daniel Rodriguez and Michael Amante have joined together to honor the city of New York and our great nation as the one and only “New York Tenors”.

Daniel Rodriguez, “America's Beloved Tenor” Came to light during one of the darkest times of our nation’s history. He was the New York City police officer whose amazing voice comforted a grieving nation in the days following 9-11-2001. He continues to inspire, stir and embrace his listeners through his recordings and memorable live concert performances.

Andy Cooney, christened “Irish America’s Favorite Son” by the New York Times, is a title he truly deserves. Andy has been taking the Irish American scene by storm for the last 20 years. His unique tenor voice has been heard in concert halls internationally, including two sold out performances in New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Michael Amante, affectionately known as “The People’s Tenor”, is a combination of All-American looks, romantic Italian charm and an incredible voice. Legendary performer Tony Bennett is quoted saying, “Michael’s remarkable range of notes and his ability to sing everything from opera to Broadway to contemporary, gives this tenor an intimate connection with anyone who hears him.”

The New York Tenors combine the artistry of three men who alone are superb, but together provide an overwhelming, ‘can’t-miss’ showcase of some of the world’s greatest vocalists and repertoire.

Also, thank you to Jim and Angela Molloy, you two were the inspiration to record this symphonic Christmas album, if you did not ask me to perform at your production of The Magic of Christmas at Carnegie Hall in December 2008, I would have never recorded this album. It'll Be Me

Thank you for picking up my latest musical work. On this CD you will find an eclectic collection of songs of Country, Heritage, Faith and Friendship. Songs such as Emigrant Eyes and Giant Land describe the true American story, and songwriters like Stephen Foster, America’s first professional songwriter of the mid 1800s paved the way for songwriting as we know it today. As you listen to the Stephen Foster Tribute, you will hear songs that have stood the test of time. I have always loved his music and decided to research over 1000 of his songs. I came across a beautiful song he wrote in the 1850s called Ah! May The Red Rose Live Always, it is poetry put to music. There are three songs of friendship that I know you will enjoy; You Were Never Too Far From My Mind, written by my long time friend from Ireland, Nick McCarthy; You Raise Me Up, written by another old Irish friend, Brendan Graham and It’ll Be Me written by the legendary Larry Gatlin. Bring Me Home really hits the mark describing the feelings of an American soldier being deployed home after proudly serving his time. There are three writers on this song; one is Colm Graham, Brendan Graham’s brother, who has played guitar in my Band for the last 20 years. No album of true Irish or American substance would be complete without recognizing our faith, in this case, our Christian faith. I have included three of my all time favorites. Enjoy…

It has been my greatest pleasure recording these songs. This album took me a year to put together. Between writing, and picking songs, I just wanted to take my time with it and see where the good Lord was going to take me. I hope you are as happy as I am with this collection. There are so many people I would like to thank and recognize. First of all, my dear friend Joannie Madden. I cannot imagine doing an album without you. My musician pals, Eamon O'Rourke, Gabe Donohue, Brian O'Driscoll and Buddy Connolly. It was a pleasure getting together with you again. To my friends Fred and Inga at Tiki Recording Studios, it was a pleasure working there again after not being there for so many years. In fact my first album with Paddy Noonan, "Irish Eyes" was recorded there in 1986. A special thanks to the gang in Dublin, Ireland, Noel Healy, Des Moore and my love, Deirdre Costello. Thank you Kristin Wilkinson. Through the years you have always been so supportive. Your string arrangements once again were absolutely superb. This album took more than a year to put together. There are so many people I need to thank concerning this album. Please forgive me if I forget to mention you. I must say, I never dreamed it would become a reality to collaborate with Phil Coulter on an album. It was an honor and a pleasure to work with a true living legend. It all happened one night at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan when I was appearing with Paddy Noonan for the Flax Trust Foundation when we noticed that Phil Coulter was among the many supporters in the audience. With that we immediately went into Phil Colter's most popular Irish song, "The Town I Loved So Well". It went over big with the audience and Phil Coulter himself came to the stage and shook the band members' hands and congratulated us. A few weeks later I was performing in Ireland and I contacted Phil and asked him if he would consider producing some songs on my new album and he graciously agreed. Thank you Phil!
